Abstract
The purpose of this study lies in formulating a future business strategy for Meister to gain competitiveness in the remanufacturing industry based on analyses of South Korea’s national competitiveness in the automotive parts remanufacturing industry. While previous studies focused on finding new implications by analyzing success and failure of a company, this study has its purpose in finding a new strategic alternative for Meister in the current business environment. The economically and socially important remanufacturing industry flourishing in developed countries has not yet been invigorated domestically due to a few pending problems. Yet,Meister has recognized the importance of the remanufacturing industry and has started remanufacturing business in 1998. Although Meister was able to establish its place as the leading company in the sector, business performance in terms of market share and profit remain low. In this context, this study will analyze national competitiveness of South Korea in the remanufacturing industry and provide an opportunity to systematically learn about the strategic framework by formulating and discussing strategies that Meister should take in order to gain competitiveness and become a future growth engine.
