Case Study on MIDAS IT’s Management System Based on Naturalism and Humanism Philosophy

Abstract

CEO Hyung Woo Lee founded MIDAS IT Corp. in 2000 and has grown up this company as a global small hidden company in the construction software industry within seventeen years. This company now occupies No. 1 position in this industry at both domestic and international market. We interpret that such an outstanding performance has sprang from CEO’s unique management philosophy called “Naturalism and Humanism management”. The corporate management system developed in the Western society has traditionally focused on “maximization of profit,” and “maximization of shareholder’s values.” and has designed appropriate corporate system to achieve this goal. However, he defines that business objective is to increase total happiness amount in the society through the right use of high technology. His management philosophy has something common with the recent new business paradigm such as creative capitalism, philanthropic capitalism, conscious capitalism, social innovation, or creating shared value. In this sense, he goes ahead of times. To accomplish his own business mission and vision he has been very passionate about nurturing global talent. MIDAS IT’s system reflects his own management principle to select, train and educate employees. The objective of this case report is to introduce MIDAS' unique management system based on “Naturalism/Humanism”. For this purpose, this report developed in-depth description about the management philosophy and corporate culture of MIDAS IT Corp, and resulting unique management style about recruitment, talent development, evaluation and reward system. Finally we discussed the challenges that MIDAS IT Corp. has faced for future growth.
