Abstract
This study aims to identify the relationships among the frequency of new firm creation, survival rate and job creation to evaluate the impact of entrepreneurship on economic growth. We perform correlation analysis and present descriptive statistics based on Seoul Enterprise Survey data from 1994 to 2013, which has opened to public by Seoul government. On the level of Seoul, the frequency of new firm creations is closely related to the degree of unemployment rate. On the county level, the frequency of new firm creations is positively associated with job creation; the counties with more corporations are positively associated with high employment growth. These results imply the followings: First, in Seoul the cases of subsistence enterprises have been more than those transformational enterprises. Subsistence enterprises have not been effective on job creation and economic growth due to high death rate. Second, each county has different characteristics in terms of the frequency of new firm creations, survival rate and job creation of new firms. Transformational enterprises tend to start their business in the counties with high economic prosperity and business clusters.
