Abstract

To spread out the co-prosperity partnerships among large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and improve the actual performance from the partnerships, it is critical to develop a model that is suitable for the characteristics of a specific firm and its industry. The food industry has the characteristics of a high proportion of SMEs that call for co-prosperity partnerships between large corporations and SMEs. However, such industry characteristics also require the development of an industry-specific model based on the creating shared value (CSV) perspective. This paper analyzes the co-prosperity partnership programs of CJ CheilJegang, Korea's largest food company, and presents it as a model for the benchmarking of other companies. The CJ CheilJedang case shows that, in order to pursue successful co-prosperity partnerships with SMEs, large firms need to develop a CSV business model that considers their core competences and industry characteristics. This paper conducted a case analysis of co-prosperity partnership program that considered industry characteristics, identified a CSV-type platform model, and suggested managerial and policy implications.
