Abstract
Korean unification will bring the most dramatic environmental jolts which exert comprehensive and vast influence on Korean businesses, markets, human capitals. etc. Korean firms seem to be unprepared to the upcoming historic moments of Korean unification, however, partly because the impacts of such environmental changes are so vague and uncertain. The uncertainties are so overwhelming that individual firms can not take proactive positions. This paper emphasizes the need for scenario-based management and presents 6 key scenarios derived from the two dimensions critical to factor conditions and demand conditions of North Korean markets. Those are the degree of market integration and the degree of the economic development gap between South and North Korean regions. Strategic contingency plans are required along with the scenarios.
