Abstract
The purpose of this study is to suggest solutions for building a new SEMCO culture to maximize collective intelligence (CI), based on enhancing expertise and real-time communication. To achieve this, this study is organized in four parts. First, we explained the industrial environment of SEMCO. Second, we briefly introduced business area of SEMCO and diagnosed the current culture of SEMCO with two-time surveys and intensive interviews. Third, we referred to core concepts of a new SEMCO culture: scientific thinking, specialization, communication, the concept of CI, successful corporate cases of CI, and conditions for practicing CI. Finally, we suggest practical improvement methods to achieve the “big hairy audacious goal” of becoming the winner in the electronic mechanics industry after conquering four big Japanese competitors by 2020: building theorization, running academic conferences, and making a theory neural network. These three suggestions are interlocked and facilitate sharing and expanding information, tangible and intangible knowledge, and skills. Thus, members, teams, and departments communicate effectively and quickly find answers to unsolved problems. Additionally, we expect that these three practices will contribute to making chances to create new things from existing things and stimulate to new thinking about normal things or unsolved problems with new perspectives. Ultimately, SEMCO will build a corporate culture maximizing collective intelligence and become the leader in the electronic mechanics area.
